California Street Cannabis at Sansome is the closest licensed cannabis dispensary to Moscone Center. The shop is at 615 Sansome St in the Jackson Square historic district — about 0.9 miles from Moscone South, an 18-minute walk on mostly flat ground.

That distance matters because, in practice, most Moscone-conference attendees stay within half a mile of the convention center: Union Square hotels, the Marriott Marquis on Mission, the W on 3rd, the JW Marriott on Powell, the Park Central. From any of those, the walk to Sansome lands at 20–25 minutes.

We’re a quarter mile north of the Transamerica Pyramid and a block south of Pacific Ave. The walking route from Moscone runs east on Howard to 1st St, then north on 1st across Market (where it becomes Sansome), then up Sansome to the shop. No hills, no transfers.

Two patterns hold across all of them: SoMa traffic during conference week is genuinely worse than locals expect, and hotel demand spikes hard. Walk the 18 minutes. Verify your hotel’s cannabis policy in writing before you check in.

ID rules: out-of-state, international, and the passport question

This is the most-asked question we get from international Moscone-conference attendees. The short answer: you must be 21 or older with a valid government-issued photo ID, and a passport always works. Most foreign-issued national IDs aren’t recognized under California regulations, but every passport is.

US attendees from outside California

Your driver’s license is fine. Texas, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington — every state’s license is accepted at every licensed California dispensary, including all three California Street Cannabis shops. We check the ID at the door, hand it back, and don’t store anything.

Cash always works — there’s an ATM in-store at our Sansome location. Debit cards work everywhere in California, including at all three California Street Cannabis shops. Credit cards don’t, anywhere — that’s a federal banking constraint applied uniformly across every licensed California dispensary.

Conference-week timing — when to go, when to wait

Moscone keynote rhythms move foot traffic through our Sansome shop in predictable waves. A few patterns we’ve watched across multiple conference cycles:

• Lunchtime (12:00 – 1:30 p.m.). Lightest crowd. Best window to walk over and browse without a wait.

• Right after a major keynote (typically 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.). Heaviest crowd. Plan to wait if you arrive in this window.

• Late evening (after 8 p.m. Tuesday – Friday). Quiet again, and the Sansome shop is open until 10 p.m. Tuesday – Friday.

• Saturday morning of conference week. Crowded — most attendees fly out Saturday afternoon and grab a last stop on the way to SFO.

• Sunday. Lightest day of the week. Most attendees are gone by then.

The Sansome shelf skews toward formats that travel well in a conference bag and a hotel room. The strongest conference-week sellers, year after year:

• Edibles and infused beverages — microdose gummies in 2.5 mg or 5 mg pieces, infused seltzers from Cann and Pamos, low-dose chocolates. Easy to dose, no smoke, no smell. The clear favorite for hotel-room consumption.

• Vape cartridges and disposables — 510-thread cartridges and prefilled disposables produce no lingering smell when used responsibly. Worth noting: most San Francisco hotels are non-smoking by law, including for cannabis vapor, and a vape used in a hotel room can violate hotel policy and trigger cleaning fees. Read your hotel policy.
