Moscone Center hosts most of San Francisco’s biggest conferences â Dreamforce, RSA Conference, Oracle CloudWorld, the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference, the Game Developers Conference, and a long list of others. Across all of them, the same question gets asked at hotel front desks every morning of conference week: where can I find licensed cannabis near Moscone Center, and how far is the walk?
This is the broader, conference-agnostic map. For the Dreamforce-specific deep-dive â walking directions, conference-week hours, hotel-friendly product picks â see our Dreamforce cannabis guide. Everything below applies to any Moscone conference: the closest licensed dispensary, the actual walk, ID rules for international visitors, and a few notes on conference-week timing.
Cannabis near Moscone Center: the closest licensed dispensary
California Street Cannabis at Sansome is the closest licensed cannabis dispensary to Moscone Center. The shop is at 615 Sansome St in the Jackson Square historic district â about 0.9 miles from Moscone South, an 18-minute walk on mostly flat ground.
That distance matters because, in practice, most Moscone-conference attendees stay within half a mile of the convention center: Union Square hotels, the Marriott Marquis on Mission, the W on 3rd, the JW Marriott on Powell, the Park Central. From any of those, the walk to Sansome lands at 20â25 minutes.
We’re a quarter mile north of the Transamerica Pyramid and a block south of Pacific Ave. The walking route from Moscone runs east on Howard to 1st St, then north on 1st across Market (where it becomes Sansome), then up Sansome to the shop. No hills, no transfers.
Which Moscone conferences this guide covers

Moscone hosts 50+ events a year. These are the recurring conferences where “where can I buy cannabis near Moscone Center?” comes up most often â both in our shop and in the email questions we get:
-
Dreamforce (Salesforce, every September). The biggest event at Moscone â roughly 170,000 attendees across the week. Heavy international attendance.
-
RSA Conference (cybersecurity, every spring). Around 45,000 attendees and historically the single most internationally weighted conference at Moscone. Passport-carrying audiences from Israel, the UK, Singapore, Germany, India, and Brazil.
-
Oracle CloudWorld (cloud computing, fall). Around 30,000 attendees. Heavy international developer attendance.
-
JPMorgan Healthcare Conference (early January). The conference itself is smaller (~9,000 in the rooms), but the side events fill Union Square â every global pharma exec is in town the second week of January. International ID questions spike for this week specifically.
-
Game Developers Conference (March). Around 30,000 attendees. Younger audience, broader international mix.
-
Other recurring fits: HIMSS Global Health (when SF-hosted), KubeCon, Adobe MAX, VMware Explore, and the SaaStr Annual, which uses the SF Bay Area but typically books venues outside Moscone proper.
Two patterns hold across all of them: SoMa traffic during conference week is genuinely worse than locals expect, and hotel demand spikes hard. Walk the 18 minutes. Verify your hotel’s cannabis policy in writing before you check in.
ID rules: out-of-state, international, and the passport question
This is the most-asked question we get from international Moscone-conference attendees. The short answer: you must be 21 or older with a valid government-issued photo ID, and a passport always works. Most foreign-issued national IDs aren’t recognized under California regulations, but every passport is.
US attendees from outside California
Your driver’s license is fine. Texas, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington â every state’s license is accepted at every licensed California dispensary, including all three California Street Cannabis shops. We check the ID at the door, hand it back, and don’t store anything.
International attendees (RSA and JPM Healthcare see the most)
Bring your passport. UK, EU, Indian, Brazilian, Israeli, Canadian, Mexican, Japanese, Australian, and Singaporean passports all work the same way: visual ID check at the door, passport handed back. If your passport is locked in the hotel safe, walk back and grab it â there is no workaround under California regulator rules.
If this is your first dispensary visit anywhere, our first-time visitor’s guide walks through the door-to-checkout experience in detail.
Payment
Cash always works â there’s an ATM in-store at our Sansome location. Debit cards work everywhere in California, including at all three California Street Cannabis shops. Credit cards don’t, anywhere â that’s a federal banking constraint applied uniformly across every licensed California dispensary.
Conference-week timing â when to go, when to wait

Moscone keynote rhythms move foot traffic through our Sansome shop in predictable waves. A few patterns we’ve watched across multiple conference cycles:
-
Lunchtime (12:00 â 1:30 p.m.). Lightest crowd. Best window to walk over and browse without a wait.
-
Right after a major keynote (typically 5:00 â 6:30 p.m.). Heaviest crowd. Plan to wait if you arrive in this window.
-
Late evening (after 8 p.m. Tuesday â Friday). Quiet again, and the Sansome shop is open until 10 p.m. Tuesday â Friday.
-
Saturday morning of conference week. Crowded â most attendees fly out Saturday afternoon and grab a last stop on the way to SFO.
-
Sunday. Lightest day of the week. Most attendees are gone by then.
If you’d rather skip the in-store browse entirely, the Sansome online menu supports pickup orders during all open hours. Order from your session, walk over, walk out. No queue.
What conference attendees actually buy
The Sansome shelf skews toward formats that travel well in a conference bag and a hotel room. The strongest conference-week sellers, year after year:
-
Edibles and infused beverages â microdose gummies in 2.5 mg or 5 mg pieces, infused seltzers from Cann and Pamos, low-dose chocolates. Easy to dose, no smoke, no smell. The clear favorite for hotel-room consumption.
-
Vape cartridges and disposables â 510-thread cartridges and prefilled disposables produce no lingering smell when used responsibly. Worth noting: most San Francisco hotels are non-smoking by law, including for cannabis vapor, and a vape used in a hotel room can violate hotel policy and trigger cleaning fees. Read your hotel policy.
-
Pre-rolls â singles and packs in sealed packaging. Useful if you have access to a private outdoor space; otherwise harder to integrate into a conference-week schedule.
What’s not worth buying for a short conference trip: large flower jars, concentrate jars, or dab tools. They’re conspicuous, hotel-unfriendly, and a lot to deal with on a tight schedule.
Frequently asked questions
Is California Street Cannabis at Sansome really the closest dispensary to Moscone Center?
Yes. 615 Sansome St in Jackson Square is approximately 0.9 miles from Moscone South â the shortest distance between any licensed cannabis retailer and Moscone Center. Walking time on flat ground is 17 to 19 minutes.
Can international visitors buy cannabis at California dispensaries?
Yes, with a valid passport. Most foreign national IDs aren’t recognized under California regulations, but every passport is. You must be 21 or older, and the ID is checked visually at the door.
Is delivery faster than walking during Moscone conference week?
Almost never. SoMa traffic during conference week is brutal, and the standard 30 â 90 minute delivery window stretches further than that. The 18-minute walk usually beats both delivery and rideshare.
