Every year, hundreds of thousands of professionals travel to San Francisco for conventions, trade shows, and conferences at Moscone Center — the city’s largest convention complex in the heart of the SoMa district. Whether you’re in town for Dreamforce, RSAC, GDC, Google I/O, or one of the dozens of other major events on the calendar, there’s a good chance your evenings are free and you’re looking for ways to experience what makes San Francisco unlike anywhere else.
One of those things? Legal, world-class cannabis — available to any adult 21 and over. And if you’re attending a convention at Moscone Center, you’ve got a top-rated dispensary closer than you think.
Cannabis Is Legal for All Adults in California
If you’re visiting from a state where cannabis isn’t yet legal, here’s the short version: California law allows any adult 21 or older to purchase and possess cannabis for personal use. You don’t need a medical card. You just need a valid government-issued ID — your out-of-state driver’s license works perfectly.

San Francisco has one of the most mature and well-regulated cannabis markets in the country, so you can shop with confidence knowing that everything on the shelf has been lab-tested and properly labeled.
Three Dispensary Locations — One Is Steps from Moscone
California Street Cannabis operates three dispensary locations across San Francisco, each stocked with hundreds of premium products sourced from Northern California growers. Here’s how each one connects to Moscone Center:
615 Sansome Street — Financial District (Closest to Moscone)
If you’re attending a convention at Moscone Center, this is your spot. The Sansome Street location in the Financial District is roughly a 10-minute walk or a quick rideshare north of the convention center. It’s the most convenient option for anyone staying at the hotels along Market Street, the Embarcadero, or the Union Square corridor — all common areas for convention-goers.
Hours: Open daily, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
1398 California Street — Nob Hill
Staying near Union Square, the Tenderloin, or Nob Hill? The California Street flagship is about 15 minutes by foot from the center of the convention zone. This location has the longest hours of the three — open 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM daily — making it a great option if you’re wrapping up an evening event and still want to swing by.
Hours: Open daily, 8:30 AM – 10:00 PM
235 Clement Street — Richmond District
The Clement Street location serves the Richmond District and is a bit further from Moscone, but if your itinerary includes Golden Gate Park, the California Academy of Sciences, or the Presidio, it’s a perfect stop along the way. Many visitors head this direction for a day away from the convention floor.
Hours: Open daily, 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM

A Few Tips for Out-of-Town Visitors
Bring cash or debit. Most dispensaries in San Francisco accept debit cards and cash. Credit card processing is limited industry-wide due to federal banking regulations, so plan accordingly.
You can’t consume in public. San Francisco law prohibits smoking cannabis in most public spaces, including sidewalks and parks. Hotels vary in their policies — some are cannabis-friendly, others are not. Edibles and vape pens offer more discreet options. The City of San Francisco has more details on local consumption rules.
You can’t fly home with it. Even if you’re flying to another legal state, TSA operates under federal law. Leave any unused product behind or finish it before you head to SFO.
Make It Part of Your San Francisco Experience
San Francisco has been at the center of cannabis culture for decades. If you’re already here for a convention, taking the time to visit a local dispensary is one of the most authentic Bay Area experiences you can have — right up there with a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge or a bowl of clam chowder at Fisherman’s Wharf.
